Little Peek At The Guest Room

So here is a little sneak peek at the changes I have made to the guest room! I have a little more to finish up in here but I thought I would share the part that I have done for now! I only ever have the time to work on this room here and there so it's been a long process but it is all finally coming together and I couldn't wait to share!

The old iron bed is a Craig's List find...I obsessively checked every day until I found one...this one happened to be just up the road at a horse farm. I had been looking for just the right piece to hang above the bed and I found a big piece of old molding at the flea market and painted it white. It fits perfectly above the bed.

I bought the night stand at the Springfield Antique Show Extravaganza. The vendor across from me there has two giant lots of antique furniture, I mean it is worth going to this show just to go to his booth. Needless to say my sisters and I buy a lot from him because all of these awesome pieces are just sitting there staring at us the whole time. Well the one morning I went in John (the vendor) had a whole stack of chippy white furniture gathered together for me because he knows that's what I love. And I mean how could I resist...wait till you see the mantle I bought from him and the chippy white screen door!! The thing is he has so much awesome furniture that I didn't even know this little night stand was over there! To say I love it is an understatement and it is just perfect next to the bed.

I also bought the drawer pull on the nightstand at Springfield. One of the vendors sells only cast iron hardware (at way cheaper prices than on Etsy) so I came home with a bag full. I have a garage full of furniture to fix up and paint for the Fall Springfield Extravaganza and I will need lots of cute hardware for it all!

The rug and ironstone pitchers are all flea market finds.

The throw pillows in the middle of the bed are both thrift store finds, along with the curtains in the windows. The quilted shams are from Walmart and the pillow cases are vintage.

Well I hope you guys enjoyed the sneak peek! More details and pictures coming soon!

Guest Bedroom- New Place for Linens

I have been wanting to show you the rest of our guest bedroom but with all of the furniture rearranging we had to do because of the kitchen reno it was not possible. We had to move the glass fronted cabinet from the dining room in order to make room for the bigger stepback cupboard that we moved out of the kitchen. I decided to put it up in the guest bedroom so that I would have a place for some of my quilts and linens.

I finally have this room all put back together and am able to show (and walk through) it.

And here is the part of the room that you have not seen yet.

This doorway leads out into the half story section of our upstairs, which is also where the stairs to get up here are.

I love hooks and peg rails and a guest room is the perfect place for them because guests always have lots of things to hang. Staying somewhere that doesn't have anyplace to hang your things is one of my biggest pet peeves!

The dresser was part of a bedroom set that I bought at the thrift store when I was furnishing our very first apartment on very little money, I think the whole set cost less than $30. I have painted it many colors since it's been ours and even thought about getting rid of it a couple of times. However, once I painted it it's current color, Glidden's "Whispering Wheat" I liked it again.

The chair came free with a $5 table I just bought last week at an estate sale, I hit the mother load that day, can't wait to show you all I got.

The soap box with wheels on the floor was also free at an estate sale as long as I took all the items it contained. It is one of my all time favorite finds.

And we are making slow but steady progress on the kitchen/"back room" reno. This past weekend Neal and my dad jacked up the house and took out all of the cinder block that was no longer doing its job.

Neal has been spending the last couple of days relaying the cinder block but we can't do much else until the mortar dries, not to mention it won't stop raining!

Guest Bedroom Reveal

This is our upstairs guest bedroom, it is actually an in-law suite with an attached kitchen (don't worry I plan to show that too).

We moved the antique bed frame from downstairs up to here last week because when my parents stay over they always sleep in the downstairs guest bedroom and my dad is so tall that his legs hit the bed posts when he sleeps.

Up until now this room was sort of just a miss-mash of furniture and very embarrassingly a storage place for the empty boxes that I use to ship my Etsy items. For years I thought about how I wanted this room to look and just recently finally had the time to get to it.

I started by painting the walls "Antique White" by Glidden, to me it is the perfect soft white.

From there I sort of just happened upon the perfect things. Like the bench at the foot of the bed for example.
I found it at the flea market a few weeks ago for $10. I have extra quilts on it for those chilly nights, but it would also be a great place for our guests to set their bags.

The stools are also flea market finds, they were a $1 actually if you can believe that. I thought they would be perfect because I didn't want large nightstands that would block the beauty of the windows. I painted them "Chinchilla" by Martha Stewart and then distressed them some.

The shelf was a thrift store find that I painted my favorite "Whispering Wheat" by Glidden.

It took me awhile to find the right bedding. I am not the kind of person that just goes and buys bedding when I need bedding because honestly I just don't like most of what is out there. I take my time and wait till I find just the right thing. I usually end up finding the perfect things at a super great price. Most of the time I just don't see items that are my style in stores, but I love scouring different thrift shops or discount stores to put together a style that is totally me.  For example I just found an absolutely beautiful linen bed skirt at the thrift store for a $1, if I went to a store and bought one it would have been $20 or $30 and I probably wouldn't have loved it so much.

I like very simple plain bedding and you just don't see much of  that out there. I frequently drop in TJMaxx in the hopes that there will be something that is my style on clearance. One of the last couple times I was in there they did happen to have just plain white quilts, I was so excited. Why are plain white quilts so hard to find?! They also had the quilt that I have folded at the end of the bed on clearance, I knew it would be the perfect camel color that I try to add pops of to all my rooms. I then layered an antique french monogrammed sheet over the quilt.

The small pillow incorporates the gray and camel colors yet is still simple enough for me. The larger pillow behind it is a Vera Wang sham that I picked up on clearance for $10. And I found the pillow cases for $3 a pair at Gabriels, they too are the perfect camel color.

I think it was worth the wait because I feel like the bed came together just right, actually as I was taking these pictures I wanted to curl up in the bed:)

I know I sound like a broken record but the dresser, the mirror and the shelf are all from the thrift store and cost less than $30 total. I painted the dresser "Whispering Wheat". Then topped it with some recent flea market finds.

Hand made boxes are one of my favorite things to collect and I am smitten with my newest one.

I hope I answered all of your questions, if not let me know! I still have the whole other side of the room to show so stay tuned.

Guest Bedroom Part 2

Don't you just love when you find a couple really great things that totally pull a room together?

This is the other side of our guest bedroom and I recently found just the perfect things to add to it.

The red magazine rack pictured above was a thrift store find and aside from great storage it helps carry that little bit of red that I have placed around the room.

The sideboard/dresser was a thrift store find that I painted "Bone Folder" by Martha Stewart, one of my favorite go to whites.

I just bought this tool caddy at an Antique Co-op and it is perfect for holding the little things that a guest might need.

I also bought this amazing antique basket at the same co-op, I have extra linens and blankets in it. I was so excited to find these quilted throws at Target on clearance, they are just right for this room.

I was lucky enough to visit my favorite shop, Romantique Boutique, last week and this embroidered linen from the 1800's was one of the many wonderful things I purchased.

And some clearance Ralph Lauren pillow cases add just a little bit of farmhouse charm to the bedding.

The red striped vintage bucket was also a Romantique Boutique purchase and is the perfect size for my hydrangea. I know I have said it over and over but if there is any way for you to get to that store do it! They have the most amazing things and their displays are so inspiring.

And I just had to show you this beautiful sign that my sister made me for Easter because she knows that I am white obsessed!
