Twenty Five Dollar Cupboard ~ One of Two

Hello!! I hope you are all having an excellent new year so far! One of the things I want to try to do this year is blog more! It's so frustrating because I have hundreds of pictures on my camera that no one ever gets to see because I just can't ever seem to find the time to sit down and put them on my blog! Between the kids, my Etsy work, and renovating, finding the time to sit (well standing to be honest) at a computer is just almost impossible for me. On top of it my brand new computer is so frustrating and won't show any camera card images so things that should take 10 minutes end up taking hours. However, I am really going to try to find the time....somehow!

That being said I have been wanting to show you this cupboard for over a year now and finally am getting to it. I bought this beauty at the Springfield, Ohio Antique Extravaganza (where I am a vendor) for $25!!! Can you believe that?

I went there with it in my head that I wanted to find some big cupboards to bring back home, much to Neal's dismay. He always says why are we going there to sell stuff if we are just going to bring other stuff home...lol.

Anyways...I can't even begin to tell you how many amazing cupboards, well furniture in general, are at this show and every time I would head to the restrooms (that is usually the only chance I get to leave the booth) I would look for one. And then one day I spotted this beauty below (more about it in another post, can't wait to tell you about it)...

and then the one below right next to it! I thought for sure they were out of my budget but I've learned to always ask and the seller said they were $35 each. What...I couldn't believe my ears?! I kept my excitement to myself and calmly asked him if he would take $50 for both and he is said yes!!! Then I really couldn't believe it!!! I could hardly contain my excitement as I hurried back to our booth!!

I mean it clearly was in need of some TLC and some paint but I could see that it still had its original handles and screen on the sides. It's actually an 1800's pie safe and I just love all of the detailing on the drawers and doors. Its upper doors were missing but that was fine with me because I wanted it for linens anyways.

I painted it Glidden's Crisp Linen White and then we put it in the living room. It's become the perfect place to display my favorite vintage linens. An antique wooden crate, a thrift store find, fits perfectly on top and holds extra pillows.

A $3 flea market basket holds some of my white quilts that I just can't seem to ever have enough of.

So if I haven't convinced you that you need to go the Springfield, Ohio Antique Extravaganzas then I don't know what will!! The Spring show is May 19, 20, 21!! I for one can't wait, I love both selling and shopping there...you just never know what you may find!!

I am in the middle of a couple of projects/changes around the house, painting numerous things at once like usual, some of them are things for the dining room.  I plan to show you the whole room as soon as I wrap up those projects!! The picture below is a hint of another thing I just finished painting! Stay tuned!!

Feeling Blue

I have been doing a lot rearranging (even more than usual) due to the fact that I had to box up most of the things in our dining room while I take down the plaster and lath ceiling. The mess it is creating is making me quite nutty actually and I feel like I need a least one area that is calm and clean. I boxed up most of my blue dishes but I thought it would be a nice change to bring some of them into our family room.

My new little corner cupboard seemed like the perfect  place for some blue and white dishes that I recently acquired.

I bought the little striped bowl on the top shelf at an estate sale a couple of weeks ago.

And the blue striped crock is a recent Etsy purchase from Frae and Co. I just love it and it fits perfectly in the little cupboard.

And I just have to share with you something that made my week! My sweet friend Laura sent me an absolutely amazing smelling candle that she made me in the spirit of Thanksgiving!

I can't even begin to tell you how good the "Pumpkin" candle she made me smells, and what a perfect combination, candles and ironstone! I asked her if she sold them anywhere because I know you guys are going to want to know...turns out she just opened an Etsy shop DOE AND BUCK where you can buy your very own! How perfect would these be on your Thanksgiving table?!

On the other end of the couch I added some blue stripe grain sacks and blue ticking to pull the room together.

I don't think I have shown this cupboard on my blog since I added the plank backing to it.

When I bought this cupboard I had to remove the disgusting back that was on it and planned on adding something different but was so anxious to hang it that I never got around to it. It was really bugging me that it was just the beadboard wall showing through in all my blog pictures though, it just didn't look right.

I didn't want to spend any money to make a backing for it since the whole cupboard only cost me $5 to begin with. Then it dawned on me that we still had all of the random length pieces of ship lap left over from when we did the ceiling in this room!

And because they fit together tongue and groove style I didn't even have to take the cupboard down to do the project. This was the first wood cutting project (I know I am way behind you other DIYers) that I did entirely by myself and I have to say I am pleased with the result! The cupboard is painted Colorplaces (Walmart) Antique Beige.

As I was moving things around I went through all of my blue and white dishes and I have some blue stripe bowls that I am ready to let go off so be sure to look for them in my Etsy  shop.

And a little update on the dining room renovation....I got one section of the ceiling down and we have the windows in! The beams are absolutely gorgeous and I know exactly how I want this room to look but I have to be patient, or at least that is what I am trying to tell myself:)  Since the weather has been so nice we have been working on the exterior of the house but once the weather changes we will put all of our efforts into finishing this room and the bathroom we have been working on for what seems an eternity.

Thanks for visiting and I hope you have a wonderful weekend!
