The place we found all of our amazing purchases is the Shawnee Country Barns Antique Co Op in North Tonawanda, NY. It is huge and takes quite a while to walk through but oh so worth it, and the prices on most items are unbelievable. It is were I bought most of the ironstone seen in my most recent kitchen pictures. Afterwards we happen to just run into the thrift store in that area and I found some amazing ironstone pieces in there too. It was a good shopping day to say the least.
Okay so here goes...these pictures should give you a greater appreciation of our kitchen as it looks now.
This is the corner where our stove is now as seen below.
This is me getting ready to get back into my scraping the floor position...good times.
This picture can give you an idea of where the wall we took down was. Where that chair is is where we have the long counter with the cutting boards in the basket at the end now. It was so dark in this house when we first bought it. The wood was dark brown, the walls were dark, the ceilings were low...no one could understand what I loved about it. I knew it just needed some light and lots of white paint (and to be scrubbed).
Thanks to all of my followers for your sweet comments, I can't even begin to tell you how happy it makes me to hear that you guys find my blog inspiring.
Oh my! You have done amazing work to that kitchen! You wouldn't even know it was the same room. Looks wonderful now.............
ReplyDeleteOh my! I think I would have been too discouraged to even buy the place but you have persevered and made it AMAZING! I would NEVER have known it looked so bad before you started. You've done an awesome job and have every reason to be proud. ~Rachel @ The Olde Farmhouse {on Windmill Hill}
ReplyDeleteYikes! Is that the same space? I don't think I could have made it through all of that. You worked very hard, that's for sure. I don't think I would have had the vision to see that a room like this could be beautiful! Megan, when did you do your work with a young child? Did you work a lot in the evenings after your son went to bed? You and your husband are awesome renovators!
ReplyDeleteThank you! We have a really wonderful family that was super helpful in the watching of our son when we were first doing the really messy stuff. We worked from sun up till about midnight that first summer. The amount of work that needed to be done was overwhelming but we were so excited to finally be working on our very own farmhouse.
DeleteAAA~MAZZZ~ING ! ! ! your vision def paid off Megan. And a constant reminder everytime you walk into that beautiful kitchen, the entire house actually.
ReplyDeleteI looked just like that earlier this week, in the stripping position. I refinished the floors in the living room and hallway, but before I could start sanding them, I had to remove 40 + years of floor wax. . . it was like bubblegum on hot concrete, yucky mess. I swear, wax will NEVER touch these floors again. . . we are the new owners of my husbands grandparents home. Gramma used to *wax* the floor every Friday.
I'm fixing it up, nothing like what you have endured tho. It has really good bones, just needs a pretty dress to put on them. . .lol.
What a fabulous transformation! When can you come tackle my kitchen for me? Love it! Janice
ReplyDeleteWhat a labor of love! And to have the patience to see your vision come to reality for your beautiful farmhouse! Thank you Megan also for sharing your locations for shopping for all your neat finds!

ReplyDeleteWe are in the middle of a farmhouse remodel and I found your blog via Pinterest. Your old kitchen cabinets look EXACTLY like what we just ripped out. Oh man, they were tricky to get out! I too have a love of all things white so I'm reading through all your posts during my "free" time. HA! Funny that it seems that all of my time is consumed by farmhouse things and I spend my "free" time reading a farmhouse remodel blog! I think it is because I need to see that someone else has done it. The "before and afters" give me hope!
