Christmas Porch

It's that time! Christmas time is here! The weather has been so warm that I was able to get some pictures of a little outdoor decorating that I did on the porch. And now that the exterior of our house looks a little better I feel like it is deserving of some Christmas cheer.

This year I made some of my own swags with greens from our yard. The boxwoods and juniper that I planted are finally big enough to cut from.

I cut most of my greens on the day I took these pictures and I just couldn't help putting this metal tray (Hobby Lobby), that was intended for the inside, in the pictures. It is filled with juniper and winter berries.

Next time I will show you some of the Christmas decorating I have been doing on the inside! My house looks like a bomb went off (yes still) because of all of the work we are doing in the dining room and bathroom so I will not be doing my normal amount of Christmas decorating. I have so many ideas though!!!

And speaking of ideas, I finally got to go to Ellis Island over Thanksgiving, somewhere I have been wanting to go since I can remember. I am fascinated with American history and the stories of our ancestors. I left there feeling moved by the history of the place and all that passed through there but also with so much design inspiration, it is such a beautifully built place and my head is swirling with so many ideas now.

All my best until next time!

  1. Oh...I just love everything. You have such a simple, natural and cozy feel going on. And so 'your own" style. I love the candles in the little bin with the greenery. I'm wondering if I did that indoors and soaked the branches and needles really well, if I could actually light the candles? Wow, how pretty that would be!

Wondering about the floor of your porch. I want to redo ours which are old, chippy and painted red. Is there any sort of stain on yours or is it just weathered wood? My porch is covered but the elements get to it and I don't want it to get beat up but really hate varnish. Any suggestions? Thanks!

    Happy Holidays, Megan!

    1. I have tried so many different types of paints and stains on my porches and none of them ever seem to hold up, porch paint being the least successful. I used a solid stain on this porch and although it has faded and worn off (our winters are nasty) in many places I kind of like the weathered look it has now. I have yet to try a deck-over product but I can't imagine it holds up any better. Wish I could be of more help:/

  3. perfectly perfect Megan. . . I just have to say I made a wreath that looks identical to yours. . . I used a grapevine wreath I had and added juniper, winter berries and pinecones to it just like yours. . . if no one knew better they would have thought I copied yours to make mine. . .creative minds create alike. . . have a fabulous holiday season. . . ~d

  4. It's all so beautiful! I'm originally from Pennsylvania and would give anything to be back there and in a house like yours! I love porch decorating but our current porch does not have a roof so I'm kind of limited with what I can put out. I'm getting ready to cut some juniper myself:) We'd love it if you'd join us over at the Vintage Charm link party going on now! Hope to see you there! xoKathleen
