Weekly Inspiration ~ Pillows

Hello and welcome to my weekly inspiration post! This weeks inspiration is ..... PILLOWS!!! If you love decorating then you probably love pillows like I do! They are such a quick and easy way to change up a room.

I use mostly neutral colored pillows with a subtle stripe or check mixed with solid colored tan, cream, and white pillows.  I like to create texture with a mixture of store bought pillows and ones that I make with either vintage fabrics or reproduction fabrics like ticking. Soft fabrics like linen and muslin and antique ticking that has been washed hundreds of times ensures a super comfy couch to rest on.

For example the pillow on top here is from LL Bean and the one under it is one that I made using ticking and muslin.

My rule is that all of our pillows have to be able to move from room to room and still match...cause that is exactly what happens...I either want to change things up or my kids are making a fort or we have lots of family here laying on all of the couches.

I still make the linen and ticking pillows seen above and sell them in my Etsy shop and have recently begun sewing pillows made with vintage coverlets. Coverlets are soft and have such a beautiful texture that they make for the perfect pillow cover.

My absolute favorite type of pillow is a blue and white ticking feather pillow...they are just perfection in my opinion and will forever be in style.

Well I hope you enjoyed this weeks inspiration! I have been busy busy busy getting ready for the Springfield, Ohio Antique Extravaganza May 19, 20, 21st. I probably won't have the time to do anymore weekly inspirations until after the show but I do plan on doing a post showing some of the goodies I am taking there! Until next time friends!

Little Bits of This and That

I'm so sorry it has been so long! I hope you guys didn't give up on me! Spring is such a hectic time around here and I just can't seem to find the time to devote to a full blog post but I thought something was better than nothing and that I could just share a couple little things with you instead! I have been spending most of my time pricing, painting, and packaging things for the Springfield (Ohio) Antique Show that I am selling at this month but I have found a moment here and there to do some other things on my list. It seems lately that I work on a lot of things, but finish nothing:/ Our tractor is broken and the outside looks like a jungle and makes me want to cry so I almost feel like it is better to just focus on inside things for now anyways.

One of the things that I finally got to was organizing my sewing area. I will do a full blog post with lots of pictures of this area but for now I wanted to give you a little sneak peek. I just love love love vintage sewing notions and simple primitive textiles like ticking and getting all of mine organized has been on my to do list for quite some time now.

Now seemed like the time to get it done because due to the fact that I couldn't seem to find the old fashioned style of pillows that I love the look of I was inspired to make my own and then had tons of requests from people to make them some and therefore have been doing a lot of sewing (had been until my sewing machine started giving me trouble).

The response to the pillows that I made for my etsy shop was amazing and they all sold in 24 hours! I do plan to make more as soon as my sewing machine gets back from the shop.

I have lots of ideas for different pillows (maybe some like the one I made below) and can't wait to get back at it.

I have been going through all of my stuff to decide what to keep and what I am ready to let go of and sell at the antique show and so that always leads to organizing and display changes around the house. My blue and white quilts found a new home in our step back cupboard for now, they are just too pretty to be unseen.

Hopefully soon I will have the time to show you how our amazing fireplace turned out and some other changes I have made around the house. MAKE sure to follow me on Instagram because I post things on there everyday. As soon as the antique show is over I will begin working on the front porch of our farmhouse and can't wait! I have been waiting 7 long years to make it pretty again and will be showing daily pics on Instagram of my progress.

Don't forget to come see me and shop at FARMHOUSESUPPLY at the Springfield Antique Show Extravaganza in Ohio, Clark County Fair Grounds, May 20, 21. and 22nd!!! I am booth # 551 and 552!!! It's not just an awesome show because I am there:)...it is a truly amazing antique/boutique type show, I can't imagine what you are looking for that you can't find at this show!!!

A New Cupboard With An Old Window

Okay so don't be mad, I know I said that my next post would show our new family room but the ceiling part is taking us longer than expected and I don't want to show it until it is completely finished. In the meantime I have done some other things that I wanted to show you like my new cupboard.

Over the summer Neal built me this cupboard using the old window that I always placed on my mantel. Originally I thought about hanging it the new family room but I put a different one in there. I also wanted to use it to display some of my blue and white dishes that I had to box up when we took the wall down in the kitchen. It made sense to put it in the living room since I have touches of blue in there already. The corner between the window and the door seemed like the perfect place.

I put a table that my mom gave me that I had always loved in her house under it. And then under the table I put some of my old crocks. The larger crock is original to the house actually, my neighbor grew up in our house and the crock went with his family when they moved out, he brought it over to me one day and said "my kids don't like old things, thought maybe you would want it". I was tickled, not only do I love old crocks, but it was back in the place it belonged. The other one was a $7 thrift store find. And speaking of finds...I just found the little pillow on the arm chair brand new for $3 at my Goodwill, it is "Threshold" from Target and is at my Target right now for $25!

I painted the cupboard Glidden's "Whispering Wheat" because I love it with the blue, and because I just love the color. I figure I will change what I put in here a million times over and this soft wheat color goes with all of my collections.

I left the door unpainted and added an old rustic handle.

The feather edge platter was one of my very first "I can't believe I found this" flea market finds. I got it about 8 years ago at the Leeper, PA flea market for $10 and I absolutely love it. That is a good flea market if you happen to camp at Cook Forest State Park like we do.

A new place for my blue and white quilts...for now:)

Some other things that had to be boxed up when we started the kitchen demo were my cows. I found them a new home in the living room next to the step back.

They are in new frames that I picked up at the flea market for $2, the blue gray color of the frame compliments the colors in the cow pictures perfectly. Plus their size and weight holds up next to the very large cupboard.

I was excited to find a blue stripe grain sack (on the couch) on Ebay that I could actually afford, it was cheaper because it has some stains but that is okay by me because inevitably my son is going to wipe his Dorito covered hands on it. Which reminds me, some readers had asked me about the coverlet on my couch. That is also there because of the Dorito hands, it is much easier to wash once a week than the entire cushion slipcover, and because you know how I love layering. It is from Ikea and washes beautifully, I have had it about 10 years, but they still make them. Gotta love Ikea, one of the only places you can find simple staple pieces like that.

So here is what we are currently working on, this is the ceiling of the family room (that is what we have decided to call it officially).

We have it about half finished. I wanted it to be plank boards or shiplap so Neal was going to just cut down pine boards but then he found this heavy bead board at Home Depot that when turned over looks just like shiplap. It interlocks and cost us about $300 dollars less than just plank boards would have. Below is a picture of the bead board side.

And below is them flipped over,  I paint them (my dining room table has been covered with a rotating supply of these boards for two weeks now) and then Neal slides them into place. Hopefully we will have it all finished sometime soon and I will show the room in total, hang tight:)

Welcome to all my new followers and thank you to all of my followers that let me know they love what I am doing. Reading what you guys think often turns a "Serious Day" as my son calls it, into a great one:)
