Our Master Bedroom Part Two
Finally more of our master bedroom!!! The last little details have been coming together very slowly because we have been so busy with other things. Also, we waited so long to have it I want it to be just right. I have to admit we love waking up these beautiful ceilings, they were definitely worth the work.
I was also waiting for the perfect pieces to complete the room, like this chair and little cupboard. I bought the cupboard at the last Springfield, Ohio Antique Extravaganza and it was buried all the way in the back of our trailer so I had to wait until it was unloaded to get to it. I knew I wanted a chair for our bedroom but really didn't want to spend a lot of money on one when lo and behold one of our family friends gave us a bunch of furniture she didn't want anymore. Among all of the furniture were a bunch of slipcovered chairs. A great place to sit and put your shoes on in the morning or take your shoes off after a long day this chair is just perfect beautiful slipcover and all.
Another new thing to the room is this beautiful hand woven rug from Natural Area Rugs. Their Paloma Jute Rug adds just the right amount of color and texture to the room and we absolutely love it. There are so many rug choices out there and I didn't want one that took up too much of the room or was too busy and as I unrolled this one I could tell it was going to be just perfect.
I haven't changed up the bedding yet, that is a record for me you guys! I am just loving this combination so much that I don't feel the need to change it yet! For more details on the bedding read Our Master Bedroom Part One. Maybe in the hot summer months I will change the shams or something. We even still have our electric blanket on the bed, in the middle of May, that is definitely a record for us!
In other news ~ If you follow me on Instagram you know that the shop we had been working on to make our brick and mortar location fell through. I am devastated and am struggling to understand the meaning of it all. We are having trouble finding anything else that fits our needs, is in our budget and is within 45 minutes of our house. We may have found something this week but it is honestly the shop that I have dreamed about my whole life and it is going to be quite complicated to get it all to fall into place. I am dying to share some the details about it but I am so afraid right now, we will know more by the end of the week. I am praying it works out but I am also trying to be realistic because it will be such a disappointment if it doesn't and I am already feeling very depressed. In the meantime I am trying to focus on the Springfield, Ohio Extravaganza which is next week. We absolutely love doing the Springfield Show and I look forward to seeing all of you that faithfully come year after year!
I hope you enjoyed Part Two of our master bedroom! All sources listed below!

Our Master Bedroom Part One
Finally...some pictures of our master bedroom for you guys! Thanks so much for waiting so patiently!! Our room is not completely done yet, still lots to do like paint baseboards, build cupboards, rehang doors and such but I did want to share with you guys what is done! After 9 nine years of thinking about how we wanted this room to look it feels so good to see it coming to fruition! And it feels even better to wake up and see this gorgeous ceiling that Neal worked so hard on!
As usual with my design I wasn't trying to reinvent the wheel with this room. My goal was to create a timeless, simple, calming and peaceful place for us. I have to be honest with you guys, I find myself gravitating back to this room throughout the day whenever I can so I think I achieved my goal. We put up my very favorite thing, beadboard, for added texture in the room and then I painted it Glidden's Swan White. I get lots of emails about what beadboard we use, I only recommend the real wood tongue and groove kind if you can afford it. We used the pressed wood pre-painted sheets for a couple of projects when we first moved in and I really don't recommend it.
I found our bed frame on Wayfair.com. I looked at hundreds of beds over about a six month long period. I was having trouble finding one that was the old iron bed design that I wanted but that was dark brown/bronze (it looks black in the pictures but it is brown) and then I finally found this one. We love it so far and it was pretty inexpensive and easy to put together. No I am not collaborating with Wayfair lol....I had to pay for the bed just like everyone else.
The trunk at the end of the bed is also from the Springfield Show, one of Neal's best finds yet.
Our quilt I found at the Springfield, Ohio Antique Show. Actually I bought the quilt from the same vendor that we bought the trunk from, she has gorgeous stuff. You guys know how I love all white quilts so I couldn't grab this beauty fast enough. It is actually made by Ralph Lauren along with the shams. I usually put a blanket across the bottom of our beds but I just couldn't bear to cover this beauty.
The little rug next to my side of the bed is actually a bath mat from Marshalls. I use bath mats a lot for rugs around the house because they are usually white and are easy to throw in the wash.
Our lamps are from Hobby Lobby, I removed the cage type shades that they came with and put Edison bulbs in them. I spent way more on these lamps than I have ever spent on lamps before ($40 a piece!! Crazy right!?) but they were exactly what I was looking for so I thought they were worth the expense. And the fact that so many other things in this room were either free or super cheap made me feel a little less guilty about spending so much money just on lamps. For example my nightstand (an old washstand) was only $10 dollars at a yard sale (that color and all). It is perfect for holding some of my decorating books and magazines. Our dust ruffle is a hand me down from a friend of my Moms. It is made by Pottery Barn and is exactly what I would have bought if I were to go pick one out. LOVE a good hand me down.
I use an antique flat sheet (Springfield also) in combination with a store bought fitted sheet. I think it is a common misconception that antique linens can't be used. I am determined to show people that they can!
I made the smaller pillow seen here (and also the other ticking one in other pictures) in front and the larger antique Transylvanian linen pillow case is from Linen and Wood on Etsy. I seriously looked at this pillow case a hundred times on Etsy but the price was just way out of my budget and then suddenly I looked one time and it was 50% off. I had an Etsy gift card from my wonderful in-laws that I had been saving for something special and this was definitely that something special.
I mean just look at this gorgeous detailing...and cream and white together on the same pillow case...ahhh perfection.
The dresser in the corner is a thrift store find that I painted Behr's Cottage White. I don't care that the drawers are wonky...I save the best dressers I find for my customers and keep the ones that I think people might not love the way I would. The mirror is hand me down from my Mom. The enamel pitcher and bowl are from a local antique shop.
I am currently working on curtains for the front windows but on this little side window I just put a cafe rod and some pretty 50 cent curtains (made by Martha Stewart) I bought at the flea market.
Neal's nightstand is another family hand me down. A basket underneath holds his numerous pairs of mesh shorts.
This room gets such amazing light, as you can see from the pictures.
Well like I said there is still a lot to do in here...on my to do list today is get those curtains finished and get the antique mirror hung above the bed.
I hope you enjoyed this first look at our bedroom, we sure are loving it! Thank you guys so much for being such wonderful followers and I will continue to share new parts of the room with you as we get them finished!
AND DO NOT FORGET....The Springfield Antique Show May Extravaganza is just around the corner! I have been busy getting things priced and painted and will be out looking for goodies right up until the show! I am hoping to have time to show you guys some of the things I am taking this year. I am in spot #550! If you love flea markets/antique shows I strongly encourage you to come to this show! Not only do you get to meet me but there are sooo many goodies that are really affordable!

Master Bedroom Update and How I Refinished The Floors
Just wanted to give you guys a little update on our bedroom! We are so close to being done! I just finished the last section of the floors and as soon as the polyurethane is dry we can do all of the last finishing touches and move in!
The above picture is of the floors before I stained them. These floors were in really good condition and had definitely been stained at one point in their history but there wasn't any sort of sealer remaining on them. I chose not to sand these floors because I didn't want to loose all of their gorgeous patina and because I knew that they were so porous they would take the stain without sanding first. Really all I was looking to do was richen them. After scrubbing them many times to remove all of the dust and debris from the reno work I applied one coat of Minwax's Dark Walnut (same that I used for the overhead beams) with a rag as seen below. When staining I work in rows of 3 or 4 to insure that I have complete control over the amount of stain and so that it's not drying faster than I can work. I really wanted it to saturate the floors so I applied it pretty heavily and did not do any dry back wiping.
Once the stain was completely dry I applied 2 coats of water based polyurethane with a brush. This was my first time using water based polyurethane and I wanted to give it a try for comparison to oil based polyurethane which is what I usually use. A lot of people have warned me that it doesn't hold up well but I wanted to see for myself. Our bedroom is the only room upstairs so it won't be a high traffic area so I thought it was a good room to try it in. It definitely goes on very easily and your brush strokes go away immediately unlike with oil based polys where your brush stroke shows forever if you mess up. Over time I will let you guys know how the water based poly holds up to washings. It definitely seems like it going to look less shiny than an oil based semi-gloss poly does when dry and that is what I wanted for this room opposed to the dining room where I wanted the floors really shiny.
Another really exciting thing that we got done over the weekend was hanging this big old cupboard in the bedroom. I bought it years ago at the Springfield, Ohio Antique Show for this exact purpose. It waited patiently in our garage all these years until finally the other night we were able to hang it!
The inside was really gross (if you watched my Instagram stories you saw the before) so I gave it a good scrub and then painted it Behr's Cottage White (one of my favorite go to whites) to match the original paint on the outside of the cupboard.
I am going to use this beauty to hold all of my smaller fabric remnants and sewing notions. This corner of our bedroom is going to be my sewing area and I am so excited!
We just have to finish up things like putting the base boards back down and some trim pieces here and there and then we can move our furniture in! I am so excited that I am going to have a pretty bedroom after 9 years of waiting and planning!
Can't wait to share all of the little finishing details with you guys!!

Master Bedroom Reno
I wanted to share some of our progress on our master bedroom! I have been talking about our renovations on it so much on here but really there just hasn't been much to show you guys! However, we are finally reaching the final stages and I am getting so excited!
So just to explain the room that is going to be our master bedroom is the old upstairs guest room seen below.
We knew when we bought the house that we wanted to make this room into our master bedroom. However, the heat and electricity to this part of the house were no longer working properly and the room needed to be fully gutted for those things to be fixed. We knew it would be an expensive and time consuming job and we were only going to do it once so we wanted to do it right when we finally did it. Right after we first moved in I removed the paneling in this room and fixed the plaster walls underneath. I tried to make it as pretty as possible and this room functioned fine as a summer guest room and as a make shift studio for me but this past summer we finally had the money and time to start making into our dream master bedroom.
The to do list would include after completely gutting the room.... putting in new windows, insulating, restoring the floor, running new wiring, adding duct work for heating, putting up drywall and then bead board on the walls and a ship lap ceiling.
I have to say I usually absolutely love demo work but taking down this ceiling was awful! Our farm was originally a sheep farm and we think they used the wool from the sheep as the insulation in the ceiling! The wool combined with 100 plus years of mouse droppings made it such a messy itchy process! It took us forever to get it all cleaned up and out of the house this being an upstairs room and all...boy am I glad that it is done and over with.
As we started taking down the plaster and lath on the walls it was so cool to see the original framing ...we could also see that there was absolutely no insulation in the walls. We also took the plaster off of the pot belly stove chimney exposing the beautiful old brick.
I always feel like being done with the demo work and having that all cleaned up is a major turning point in our renovations. At least then the kids can be in the area we are working on with us. We try to teach them as much as possible and they really love helping.
Once we saw how beautiful the original support beams in the ceiling were we knew we would keep them exposed. We scrubbed them and then stained them Minwax's Dark Walnut. We decided to keep the ceiling vaulted and put up ship lap running it all the way up to the peak. The picture below shows where we are now in the whole process...I have to finish painting and Neal has to finish putting up the ship lap boards that run along where the wall meets the ceiling. The ceiling will need a couple more coats of paint and then it will be done!
This has definitely been one of our longer projects as we started it late in the summer and now are really only able to work on it in the evenings and on the weekends.
I will be keeping to my favorite and timeless "whites and creams mixed with dark woods and metals palette" in this room. We have some new to us antique pieces of furniture and some great hand-me-downs that we are super excited about that will go into the bedroom once it is finished. Being at the antique mall where I have a booth all of the time enabled me to slowly find the perfect pieces of furniture for the room. We are definitely in the home stretch now and I can't wait to start putting it all together!
I will keep you guys updated on our progress! Make sure to follow me on Instagram for videos of our bedroom renovation and tutorials. With the instant gratification of Instagram these days I do hope that people are still reading blogs! I don't get half as much feedback here on my blog as I do on Instagram but I'm pretty sure you guys are reading and enjoying it, or at least I hope! Each blog post I do takes me hours but for me it is worth every minute if I know I inspired someone! That reminds me, I am going to be going back to doing a weekly farmhouse inspiration post filled with all of the pictures that I took that week...so stay tuned for that!
