Christmas In The Dining Room

I never had the time to show our dining room/sitting room area before Christmas but now that all of the holiday hustle and bustle has eased I managed to get some pictures taken.

The large antique water pitcher is a new purchase. I bought it over Thanksgiving break in Brooklyn on Small Business Saturday.  American Express always has incentives on SBS (last year I bought the hemp table runner, seen here but that shop closed sadly) and this year they refunded $10 for every purchase over $10 up to three times. The pitcher was $20 so with the refund it only cost me $10!

I love changing up what I put in the unit Neal built me, this year little ironstone pitchers seemed like the perfect thing.

A new extra large ironstone platter that I just bought for a steal found it's home on my dining room table.

My niece used lanterns as center pieces for her wedding instead of flowers and we all ended up with one. I took one of the white ones (shocking I know) because I knew it would be perfect come Christmas.

I can't believe it is time to take all of the Christmas stuff down already, I feel like I just got it all up:) This December was so busy that I never actually got to enjoy all the decorations. I will definitely be leaving up the pine boughs and all of the greens for a couple more weeks this year.

Over the past four months I haven't slept more than two solid hours with out Millie waking and it was starting to catch up with me. However, Millie only woke for one feeding the last couple of nights so the cob webs in my brain have begun to clear and I feel like a have a new lease on life! I have lots of decorating/renovation ideas that I really hope to get to in the new year so stay tuned! And I got some really amazing gifts for Christmas this year that I can't wait to share with you!  I hope you had a wonderful holiday season, happy new year!

Autumn In The Dining Room

I added some touches of Autumn to the dining room and thought I would share them with you on this beautiful sunny day.

I used one of my caramel stripe grainsacks for the runner and some pin oak leaves and baby boos add a simple touch of autumn to the table. I had set my ever growing stack of ironstone platters on the table while I figured out where to put them when I thought to myself that they are just too pretty to put away.

I snagged the very old cutting board under the enamelware pitcher at an estate sale in an early 1800's farmhouse this past summer. I actually bought two amazing cutting boards there, the other one is in the pile of things I need to get listed in my Etsy shop...all you cutting board junkies be on the look out:)

Over on the sideboard I hung a twig wreath on the old door and put a beautiful jarrahdale pumpkin in an ironstone bowl. I was so excited to see that Walmart had all kinds of heirloom pumpkins for $3 this year. Most of our local farms don't sell these rare types of pumpkins and I bought jarrahdale seeds to grow my own but never got them in ground.

Time for me to get back outside and help Eli rake the leaves!

Dining Room On A Sunny Morning

It was such a beautiful sunny morning that I just had to take some pictures.

Come this time of year I spend most of my day working outside in the yard so I like to keep things simple inside.

You can see that the couch is back in its original position. My mom was getting a new couch so we got her old one and put it in our new family room as it is longer and more comfortable. The pattern on the couch my mom gave us is not my style (not my mom's either that is why she didn't want it anymore) so I ordered a slip cover for it. I just didn't feel like I had the brain power to make this one myself like I did for our other couch. I will show you how the slip cover looks when it arrives!

I have been in a save every penny mood lately, even more than usual, because there are so many costly things that we are working towards for the house, like siding for instance. Sometimes I feel like all of my efforts inside are pointless when my house looks as bad as ours does on the outside. But I have really been lucky lately as far as finding great things at really good prices. Like this watering can for instance was only $5 at TJ Maxx, and the cute wire basket was also only $5 and they both look perfect in my $4 estate sale wooden tray. Even the white azalea was less than $5!

One thing I can not find however are cute baby girl clothes. Everything is bright pink, with scratchy bows and ugly butterflies! When I was pregnant with Eli I used to see the prettiest baby girl stuff and now of course we are having a girl and I have yet to see anything subtle and pretty:(

My sincere thanks for all of your sweet congratulations on my pregnancy! You guys are the best! I haven't even started the baby's room yet, we have to do some work to the guest room before we move Eli in there. But I know just how I want it to look and have been collecting things over the years in the hopes I had a girl and promise to share it all with you!

Dining Room Pictures

Some pictures of the house....just because it has been awhile:) Enjoy!

My most recent thrift store finds, a white covered serving dish and four white plates fit right in with all of my other white pieces.

A while back I said I was going to designate certain posts to reader questions, I am struggling to find blogging time lately but I promise I am still going to that!
