A Diamond In The Rough

Boy oh boy did I luck out yesterday! As I was driving to the grocery store I saw a garage sale sign and decided to check it out. I drove back a road some ways and then saw a large garage with 1970's furniture and kids bikes out front. I got that "Oh there is nothing here for me" feeling, if you frequent garage sales you know just what I mean.

Well boy was I wrong! I walked inside the garage and what did I see among lots of outdated clothes and ugly lamps, but this beauty! I couldn't believe my eyes and it was only $5!

I have lots of yellowware bowls but none in this soft creamy white color.

It is right at home on my kitchen island and call me cheesy but I talk to it every time I walk past it, I just love it so much. It made my day and to top it off I got free fish to cook up for dinner from the guy at the antique place I stopped at on my way home (that's another story).

So the moral of the story is...if you go to a garage sale and all you see are kids clothes and toys don't be scared off you just never know what might me hiding in there!

  2. What a treasure. . .it's a beaut, it was cheap and it *needed* to be in your kitchen. . . and since you talk to it all the time it probably feels right at home. . . Have a good weekend Megan. . .

  4. That is such a pretty bowl and what a fantastic price. No wonder you talk to it! I too ventured out today to a garage sale I saw on craigslist. They were holding it, " rain, sleet or snow." Yes it is 32 degrees in Minneapolis today and snowing. We have never seen this before! I saw some things in the photos online and didn't think I had a prayer of getting them, but I did, even when I arrived rather late. One was a gorgeous white ironstone covered (small) tureen ($5) and two white ironstone serving bowls that were $1 each. I also picked up 3 vintage plant "frogs" for $1 for all. There wasn't too much competition in this weather!

  8. This is just beautiful and it looks perfect in your kitchen! I have to remember your advice, even if it looks like it's all 70's stuff, maybe grandma left a few things, too!

  12. What a find! I'm envious. Hubby is always saying--just by driving by--that a yard sale is not a good one. I don't listen! I make him turn around and go back. Most of the time, he finds things he's looking for. You never know!

  15. Oooooooo… I LOVE yellow ware bowls. I have found a few at garage sales, but they are very hard to find anymore for the CHEAP price I want to pay. You will have to check out my "collections" post that I just did on yellow ware! (-:
